Epistle #24: Friday Update

IMPORTANT THINGS FOR DEAR ST PAUL MEMBERS TO KNOW AND TELL!

1) Keep the Faith!  Fear is one of Satan’s favorite weapons that he employs against us.  His “lie” to us is that we are on our own and that God is far away from us.  Don’t believe it for a second!  “Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

2) A special invitation this weekend for each of you, is in the opportunity to Consider Your Traveling Companion for the road that you are on right now.  Pastor Brian will share reflections and learnings from a couple of guys on the road to a village called Emmaus, which will provide insight and direction for all of us on our present day journey.

This message will be accessed through an embedded link in EPISTLE #25, which will come to you on Sunday morning.  (It will also be available on our website and on our Facebook page.)  It’s a fascinating story, found in Luke 24:13-35.  You are encouraged to take the opportunity to read this beforehand if you have a chance!

3) Consider joining the Face Mask Challenge!  If you like to sew, and wish to make a difference in the lives of others, please put your hand in the air and say, “Use me Lord!”  And then call or email St. Paul member, Liz Hansen who is coordinating our congregation’s efforts toward Lutheran World Relief’s challenge of creating and shipping 75,000 face masks to people in vulnerable communities around the globe who are defenseless against COVID-19.

To participate, please contact Liz Hansen 515-462-3987 or lhansen6307@gmail.com to let her know “you’re in”, so that she can offer further instructions according to Lutheran World Relief specifications.

4) St. Paul members Tim and Jacque Mohs are involved in an effort to “pay it forward”.   Tim & Jacque created a GoFundMe page called Husky Helpers in an effort to benefit Madison County residents that are having a hard time putting food on the table.  They have a goal of $10,000 and are well on their way thanks to over 70 generous donors.  After the GoFundMe campaign ends in about a week, they will use the money to purchase food items which will be distributed to those in need.  Tim, Jacque and the Winterset Girls Cross Country team will be sorting and distributing the food within the next few weeks.

You can help!  Tim and Jacque are looking for Madison County residents that are in need of food & finding it financially difficult to make ends meet during this pandemic.  If you, or someone you know could benefit from this event and is unable to attend the distribution, the Husky Helpers will deliver the items.  Please send contact information of people who need delivery to MohsTim@gmail.com or StPaulLutheranChurch@hotmail.com, all names will be kept confidential.  Please know that this is available to help support you or that person during these days.

Thank you for your participation in keeping our community fed.  Together, we can get through this.

PS late breaking update: We have just been informed that Liz Hansen has committed to 150 face masks from St. Paul Lutheran, so she is definitely hoping that she will be contacted by interested participants!
