Devotions from God PauseJesus’ ragtag disciples were used to rural living. Then Jesus takes them on a field trip to the big city of Jerusalem. They gawk at the enormity of the Temple, amazing in both structure and design. I can relate. A few years ago, I had the privilege of taking a study tour to Greece and Turkey, retracing the steps of the Apostle Paul. I was awestruck with the ruins of the Roman Empire across the Mediterranean: huge colosseums, theaters, libraries, and the many temples of gods and goddesses. Jesus was right: buildings will not last forever. They will fall. Across the millennia, powerful empires with ruthless leaders have fallen. We can stand in the ruins, read about their lives in history books, and study remnants of past civilizations in museums. Empires and rulers, gone. What is the good news? Kingdoms rise and fall, but the Word of God stands forever!
