| Worship with us, September 13, 9:30am. Join us in person or on our YouTube channel. Leader Kristi Swanson will be preaching on the Gospel of Matthew 28:1-10 ELCA Triennial Sermon today. Today’s sermon will feature the voices of women in our congregation and celebrate the ELCA Women’s Triennial Gathering from last July. Upcoming Worship Helpers September 13, 9:30 am (ELCA Triennial Gathering Celebration) Greeters/ Ushers: Rainy Gibbens and LaRee Allen Reader: Miriam Lutz and Cheryl Young Sound/ Screen/ Streaming: Lisa Vossekuil Musician: Clarice Blanchard Counters: Lisa Vossekuil and Steve Dick Communion Server: Nicole Darling, Barb Kellogg, Miriam Lutz, Cheryl Young Communion Bread: Nicole Darling Acolytes/ Crucifer: Devotions from God Pause: What happens when someone wrongs you? Maybe you pretend it didn’t happen. Maybe you post about it on social media. Maybe you rant to family or friends. But Jesus says, first go to the one who wronged you and point out the fault. Privately. Directly. To their face, not behind their back. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like hard, uncomfortable work. It would be easier to talk about the person than to them. But Jesus treats the relationship as worth more than our comfort. “If you are listened to, you have regained that one.” Not defeated them. Not proven a point. Regained them. The relationship is something precious that was in danger of being lost. Only if that word goes unheard does the circle widen, first to witnesses, then the whole community. Confrontation, Jesus’ way, stays as small as it can, because the goal was never to win, but to restore a broken relationship. Sunday Bible Study: Bible Study will meet at 11:00 a.m. following morning worship in the classroom near the church office. We invite questions, comments, and connections, as we expand upon the readings from the worship service. In the upcoming weeks we will be looking into the Gospel text. |
