Devotions from God Pause: A few years ago, my husband and I were on a “Journeys of Paul and the Greek Islands” tour. The first stop of the tour was to the ancient city of Philippi. We were able to walk where Paul walked. We visited the jail where he was imprisoned. Throughout that trip, the stories of scripture seemed to rise up from the ground beneath our feet. Philippi was no longer just a name on a page; it was a real place where the gospel had taken root, where lives had been changed, and where Paul had suffered for the sake of Christ. “Only, live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Paul writes these powerful words from prison, yet his concern is not first for his own comfort or release. His concern is for the church—that they would stand firm, united in spirit, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel. His call is simple, let the gospel be visible in the way you live together. Sunday Bible Study: Bible Study will meet at 11:00 a.m. following morning worship in the classroom near the church office. We invite questions, comments, and connections, as we expand upon the readings from the worship service. In the upcoming weeks we will be looking into the Gospel text. |
The coffee pot will be on. Tea bags and hot chocolate packets are also available. No strings attached-just a chance to visit others in the comfort of the high school and junior high rooms at St. Paul’s at 9:00 am on Monday mornings. If Winterset schools are cancelled or delayed, there will be no coffee. For school breaks and for general purposes, please use your own judgement. God’s Work, Our Hands: GWOH will be held Sunday, October 4, following worship service. We welcome your ideas and suggestions for projects to fulfill needs. Please let Ann Bartelt, Jacque Mohs, or Pastor Erick know. Lunch will be served at 1:00 pm. Please use the sign-up sheet on the usher’s table to indicate your availability to help. There is also a sign-up sheet for t-shirts, if you don’t have one or if your size has changed. They are the same gold ones as in previous years. We thank the Trust Fund for furnishing them. Sign-up will close Sunday, September 13.
Dinner with Friends on Thursday, October 8. Each month, on the second Thursday, a host from St Paul Lutheran Church will choose a restaurant. The host will make the group reservation. All Saints Day. Sunday, November 1st is All Saints Day to honor those baptized and deceased this past year.
Ham Ball Dinner – Saturday, November 7th 4:30 – 7:00 Menu: Cheesy potatoes, green beans, homemade desserts and applesauce. $13.00 Call 515-468-1899 to go orders. Delivery for shut-ins only – orders required by Friday, Nov 6th. We will start asking people to volunteer to work and to donate food in the next few weeks. Contact Jacque Mohs if questions.
Holiday Hop – Saturday, November 21st 8:30-1:30 We will be asking the congregation for donated crafts, baked goods, candy, etc. We also have a gently used Christmas decoration room, so we’re always looking for donations for that room. Pies go especially well, especially those that can be frozen, since it’s the week prior to Thanksgiving. Contact Jacque Mohs at 515-468-1899 for more information.

Severe Weather. Our church follows the school closings. If Winterset schools are closed or dismiss early due to weather, there will be NO church activities. For weekend services, school breaks and for general purposes, please use your own judgement.
Worship Service Helpers/Volunteers Needed! Serving as a worship leader and helper is an excellent way to become better acquainted with our congregation. All are invited to serve in a variety of capacities: usher, reader, communion server, etc. Any introduction or training you may want for the positions is offered by Debi Martens debi.martens21@gmail.com
