Devotions from God Pause: This epistle was addressed to early Christians who were struggling to live out the gospel while experiencing persecution because of their faith from the larger society and the state. We live in a country where our religious gatherings are safe from state persecution and relatively safe from other threats. But throughout our world today more than 388 million Christians face high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith. This letter must seem a word of encouragement for these struggling Christians, particularly as they are reminded of what Christ endured for them at the hands of those who abused him. It would be good for our local faith communities to remember those being persecuted for their faith, lift them up in prayer, and offer whatever support we can. The good news is that despite threats of death in many countries of the world, the church remains alive, active, and even growing in those places as they seek to follow the shepherd and guardian of their souls. Join us for Monday morning Coffee Fellowship: Last Monday Coffee Fellowship will be held on Monday, May 18th. The coffee pot will be on. Tea bags and hot chocolate packets are also available. No strings attached-just a chance to visit others in the comfort of the high school and junior high rooms at St. Paul’s at 9:00 am on Monday mornings. If Winterset schools are cancelled or delayed, there will be no coffee. For school breaks and for general purposes, please use your own judgement. Coffee will be off for summer vacation from the end of May and will resume in September. Sunday Bible Study: Bible Study will meet at 11:00 a.m. following morning worship in the front most classroom near the church office. During the class, we invite questions, comments, and connections, as we expand upon the readings from the worship service. |

The Saint Paul Flower Gardens are coming alive. All mulching is done. Thanks Bill and Mark. The beds have been cleaned, Trees have been trimmed. The lawn has been de-thatched. Commercial chemicals have been applied to the lawn. Mowing has started. A lot of work -Thanks to All. Several of the left over Easter Lillies have been planted in the circle drive area. A new bright red rose bush has been planted in the west circle drive area. A 7 son multi stem ornamental tree has been donated and installed by Dave Brakhane on the east side of the church. FYI Dave raised this tree from a 3’ pot and moved the tree stock with them when the family moved from Missouri several years ago. The tree is nearly full grown. NOTE: Dave is still doing some limited landscaping work locally in addition to their work on the family farm. Thank you Dave and family! The Community Garden (Lutheran and Catholic) is in full swing. Individual plots have been marked out and additional tilling done. Plants and seeds are starting to be put in place. Unused space will allow us to plant communal garden vegetables to share with our congregations and the multipurpose center, etc. Sharing is GOOD! The composting site is operation too. Some of the compost we worked last year is nearing completion and can be used now. Our composting piles require weekly physical labor to turn and mix coffee grounds, vegetables, egg shells, leaves, grass, and wood mulch. Myron Hirschman is helping with this new addition to our community garden effort. Think GREEN! Thanks, Rich
