We will be celebrating our new confirmed teenagers this Sunday. There will be a continental breakfast before the service and donuts afterwards. Devotions from God Pause: My mind goes to John 3:17 when I read this passage. “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.” Jesus saves us. If I were left to my good behavior, I wouldn’t make it out of town much less to heaven. The truth mentioned is that God loves us despite our inability to do right. It is a great gift that God loves us just because of who God is. The world around us judges harshly. We judge ourselves harshly. Left to ourselves there is no getting away from the sin that dwells within us. Only God makes us worthy. As worthy people of God we are called to love our neighbor and to seek the well-being of all. Join us for Monday morning Coffee Fellowship: Last Monday Coffee Fellowship will be held on Monday, May 18th. The coffee pot will be on. Tea bags and hot chocolate packets are also available. No strings attached-just a chance to visit others in the comfort of the high school and junior high rooms at St. Paul’s at 9:00 am on Monday mornings. If Winterset schools are cancelled or delayed, there will be no coffee. For school breaks and for general purposes, please use your own judgement. Coffee will be off for summer vacation from the end of May and will resume in September. The Saint Paul Flower Gardens are coming alive. All mulching is done. Thanks Bill and Mark. The beds have been cleaned, Trees have been trimmed. The lawn has been de-thatched. Commercial chemicals have been applied to the lawn. Mowing has started. A lot of work -Thanks to All. Several of the left over Easter Lillies have been planted in the circle drive area. A new bright red rose bush has been planted in the west circle drive area. A 7 son multi stem ornamental tree has been donated and installed by Dave Brakhane on the east side of the church. FYI Dave raised this tree from a 3’ pot and moved the tree stock with them when the family moved from Missouri several years ago. The tree is nearly full grown. NOTE: Dave is still doing some limited landscaping work locally in addition to their work on the family farm. Thank you Dave and family! The Community Garden (Lutheran and Catholic) is in full swing. Individual plots have been marked out and additional tilling done. Plants and seeds are starting to be put in place. Unused space will allow us to plant communal garden vegetables to share with our congregations and the multipurpose center, etc. Sharing is GOOD! The composting site is operation too. Some of the compost we worked last year is nearing completion and can be used now. Our composting piles require weekly physical labor to turn and mix coffee grounds, vegetables, egg shells, leaves, grass, and wood mulch. Myron Hirschman is helping with this new addition to our community garden effort. Think GREEN! Thanks, Rich
